IDF Opens Criminal Probes Into Two Gaza Attacks
Tyunews.com – The Israel Defense Forces announced on Wednesday that criminal investigations will be opened into two separate incidents in which Palestinians were killed during the ongoing war in Gaza.
The Hind Rajab Case
One of the probes concerns the January 2024 killing of five-year-old Hind Rajab and five members of her family. The children and adults were inside a vehicle in the Tel al-Hawa neighborhood of Gaza City when Israeli forces targeted them on February 10, 2024.
Hind's death became a global phenomenon after a recorded phone call surfaced. While her family was caught in crossfire attempting to flee Gaza City, the young girl spoke with a dispatcher at the Palestinian Red Crescent Society.
"They are dead," Hind told the dispatcher at one point.
As the PRCS dispatched an ambulance to reach the family, Hind and the dispatcher recited passages from the Quran and played small games to keep her mind off the chaos around her. The ambulance never made it to them. Hind and every other person in the group were later found dead.
Paramedics Killed in 2025
The second investigation addresses an incident in 2025 in which 15 Palestinian paramedics lost their lives.
Broader Review Mechanism
In a statement, the IDF said it "examines exceptional incidents that occurred during combat" as part of its "obligations under international law and Israeli domestic law."
From the start of the Israel-Gaza war in October 2023, the military's Fact-Finding and Assessment Mechanism has completed reviews of roughly 150 incidents and forwarded them to the Military Prosecution for further examination. Of those cases, the Military Prosecution has rendered decisions in five.
