Worcester Police Search for Woman Linked to Off-Duty Officer’s Fatal Home Incident

Tyunews.com – Authorities in Worcester, Massachusetts, launched a wide-ranging search on Tuesday for a 58-year-old woman after an off-duty police officer was found dead inside a residence. Kurt Solomon, 57, had served on the Worcester force for 31 years. His body was discovered Tuesday morning in what investigators are describing as a “domestic incident” that took place on Aug. 17, 2026.

The woman sought by police is Karen Solomon, who has not been located as of Wednesday morning. Investigators, including agents from the U.S. Marshals Service, swept nearby neighborhoods using helicopters, canine units, and boats. Despite the extensive effort, she remained at large when police last updated the public.

Authorities Describe Suspect as Armed

Worcester Police Chief Paul Saucier and Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early characterized Karen Solomon as believed to be “armed and dangerous.” The department declined to elaborate on the nature of the relationship between the two individuals.

At a Tuesday news conference, Early explained the department’s immediate objective:

“In regards to this case, we want her for questioning. She was at the house. We’d be able to ask her [questions] with regards as to what happened at the house.”

The district attorney confirmed that other individuals were present at the residence during the incident but withheld additional specifics while the investigation continues.

Karen Solomon’s Work in First-Responder Mental Health

Karen Solomon founded First HELP, a nonprofit dedicated to suicide prevention among first responders. The organization assists officers navigating mental-health crises and works to raise awareness about suicide risk for responders and their families.

In the aftermath of the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, Solomon discussed first-responder suicides with ABC News. In that March 2021 interview, she posed questions about how officers reach a breaking point:

“What brought the officer to the point of suicide, and why couldn’t that officer get help? And once we can answer those two questions, we can assign it a line of duty death designation.”

Tribute to Officer Kurt Solomon

Thomas Duffy, president of the Worcester Patrolmen Union, spoke to reporters about the fallen officer. Solomon had two sons and spent three decades on the job.

“It was an honor to work with him. He was a tremendous person and a tremendous police officer,”

Duffy said.

Surveillance Footage Released

On Wednesday, the Worcester Police Department made available photographs and video captured by home-security cameras in the surrounding area, showing Karen Solomon after the incident. The department urged anyone with information to call 508-799-8606.
