At Least 27 People Killed in Bangkok Pub Fire

Tyunews.com – Bangkok was rocked by a devastating fire at a local pub on Monday morning, resulting in the deaths of at least 27 individuals and leaving many others injured. Firefighters eventually managed to contain the flames, but the incident left a grim toll before the situation was brought under control.

Details of the Incident

Emergency responders shared video footage online depicting the intense blaze consuming the Na Ladprao pub in the northern sector of the Thai capital. The footage captures thick black smoke rising from the front entrance as patrons attempt to escape. According to officials, the fire was first reported around midnight, triggering a rapid response.

“The power went out, and smoke filled the entire space,” said a musician who was performing at the pub. “I saw smoke coming from a circuit breaker near the stage before the explosion occurred.”

Casualty Numbers and Conditions

Bangkok’s governor, Chadchart Sittipunt, revealed that 63 people were hospitalized following the disaster, with 22 in critical condition. Authorities are working to identify victims, as many arrived without ID or were unconscious. The fire reportedly took about half an hour to extinguish, leaving behind charred furniture and a damaged interior.

Sukanya Wongwongwai, a singer performing nearby, described her rush to the scene after learning of the fire. She noted that several bandmates were at the pub, stating, “When the fire started, everything went dark. The power was out, and smoke made it impossible to find others.”

Historical Context

Thai officials highlighted that this tragedy follows similar incidents in the country’s history. In 2022, a fire at a music venue in the eastern region claimed 14 lives. A decade earlier, a New Year’s Eve celebration at the Santika nightclub in Bangkok resulted in 66 fatalities and over 200 injuries, caused by an indoor fireworks display.
