Among the casualties, one person was confirmed deceased, according to Midland Mayor Lori Blong. The suspected perpetrator, who has since been killed during a standoff with law enforcement, is now reported dead, city authorities stated.

Law enforcement swiftly responded to the incident, which began as a traffic stop earlier in the week. Officers attempted to detain the driver, who then opened fire and escaped, triggering a prolonged evasion. The suspect remained hidden until Friday, when authorities finally located him. During the confrontation, the shooter targeted civilians, leading to the injuries reported. This marks an ongoing development, with further updates expected.

“I would really ask Midlanders to pray for the families of those who have been impacted, for the victims themselves, and for the family of the one who is confirmed deceased,” said Mayor Lori Blong during a press briefing.

Hospital Updates on Injuries

Nine of the injured were transported to Midland Memorial Hospital, where four required immediate surgical intervention while the remaining five were admitted in stable condition. Hospital officials noted that the five in stable condition have since been released.

Shooting Linked to Earlier Traffic Stop

Preliminary investigations indicate the violence originated from a traffic stop on Wednesday, June 10, 2026. The driver, after being pursued by officers, fired at them and fled the scene. The suspect has been on the run since, according to law enforcement sources.
