Kentucky Floods Claim Four Lives as State Emergency Declared
Tyunews.com – Heavy rainfall and sudden flash floods have struck central Kentucky over the weekend, resulting in at least four fatalities, according to Gov. Andy Beshear. The governor shared the update on Saturday via X, stating, “Kentucky, I have some tough news to share.”
Three Fatalities in Madison County, One in Jackson County
Beshear confirmed that three of the deaths occurred in Madison County, while the fourth was reported in Jackson County. The National Weather Service noted that over 6 inches of rain had fallen in certain regions of the state, exacerbating the situation.
“This is a serious flooding event, where teams have already had to conduct multiple water rescues from vehicles and homes across the commonwealth,” Beshear added.
Earlier on Saturday, the governor declared a state of emergency, anticipating continued rounds of intense rain through the night. The severity of the storm prompted the Richmond Police Department to report that two of the Madison County fatalities were linked to a residence in Richmond. One adult male and one adult female were among the victims.
“Of the three fatalities in the county, two occurred at a residence in Richmond,” said the Madison County Coroner.
The third death involved an adult male who was swept away by floodwaters while driving on Tates Creek Road in Madison County. Flash flood warnings were issued by the National Weather Service, highlighting that southwestern Indiana had already received 4 to 10 inches of rain, with additional precipitation expected.
